Kylie is posing classroom management questions

Since you now have spent some time with your cooperating teacher, what are some things you like that he/she does in the classroom that you would want to do in your own classroom?

Similarly, what are some things you don’t like that you would do differently in your own classroom?

What are some classroom management approaches that you feel are clever and innovative that you have observed that you feel you would like to bring to your own classroom?

  1. While working with my cooperating teacher, I notice her level of patience towards the first graders as well as the love for teaching she has. She has many classroom management strategies that I noticed. She uses phrases like, "Body check 3,2,1" "Eyes on me" "I want to see your pencils dancing". These phrases help the teacher check the students status and their attention.
Something I would do differently in my own classroom is allow students to be more outspoken. Due to being on Zoom, the mute button is very much used and students are restricted to saying what they want to say.
Again, the classroom phrase strategies is a good method I would use. My cooperating teacher uses small games to initiate a lesson or brain breaks in between subjects.

  2. While working with my cooperating teacher, some things that she does in the classroom that I would like to do in mine include giving the students a opportunity to once a week, bring something in for "show and tell". Even in third grade, they all get very exited when that one special day of the week arrives as everybody listens in on who gets to share.

Things that I do not like that my teacher does and that I would do differently involve how they complete certain assignments as some of the methods are a bit "too old school" and could be brought to life much more with the plentiful amount of platform's that technology has brought us overtime.

Some classroom management approaches that I feel are cleaver and innovative that I have observed that I feel I would like to bring to my classroom involve us as a class creating "classroom rules" as this is a major step in how students can become productive citizens in the classroom while also having the time of their lives learning and applying the various lesson that are taught on a daily basis.
