Leslie and classroom management
Are there any classroom management tricks/techniques that you use with your students that you have found to be efficient? Did you learn about these approaches while you were observing in your present classroom? In essence, how do you keep students focused? How do you start the day efficiently? How do you keep your room organized? How do you get the students to move from one activity to another? How do you maintain the students' attention? How do you make sure students follow class rules?
And finally, have you ever tried to use a management technique that worked with one group, tried it again with another group of students only to have it fail? Why do you think this happened?
Observing this semester is a lot different than past semesters. Students are rarely engaging with each other and always on the computer so not much classroom management tricks or techniques are being used. I have seen many classroom management tricks in past semesters I have observed. Things such as greeting students at the door, having a warm up activity when they come in, assigned jobs for the students, setting a timer for activities, and to get students moving.
ReplyDeleteI learned about all of these techniques while observing. It allows students to stay focused and be independent. I have seen in the past teachers use a clap method or a phrase method to get students attention and it really does work. It is fun and students enjoy it.
I have seen a chart method used for students to make sure they are following rules. For example a weather chart. If students are great, they will land on the rainbow. If students are good, they will land on sunny. If students are okay they will land on cloudy and if students are bad they will land on stormy. I have also seen DOJO points being used. These two ways are great ways to ensure that students are following class rules as well as giving a positive reinforcement.
I have not tried to use a management technique that has worked with one group and not the other. Again, this semester is very different from past ones so I am not engaging with the students as much because everything is done online.
Observing this semester has many differences from past semesters. Students in general are engaging less with each other depending on whether or not the days are in class or remote, however, there are ways to get around this such as greeting students at the door, having a warm up activity when they come in, assigned jobs for the students, and motivating students to try their hardest no matter what faces them.
ReplyDeleteEmbracing certain techniques is very important to me as it allows students to stay focused and work accordingly. If all students are great, they will receive recognition as the DOJO points system tends to be used and ensures that students are following class rules as well as giving a positive reinforcement and management techniques are still a work in progress as I always try my best to assess all situations at hand.
